New Pictures

Last week, I went to the boys basketball game at home and worked on getting new pictures. I did not like the pictures in my draft and some of the new pictures that I took are very clean and crisp and I am very happy with it. The next step for me is to use Photoshop, make the pictures look nicer and more crisp, then put them into my magazine.

Feedback/Revisions

The feedback I received from the class was actually very beneficial. I know I want to redo all of my pictures and that is where I am going to start. I got a new phone with the best camera, so my plan is to go to the boys games and get in game pictures, as well as pictures of the girls varsity at practice. There was a lot of white space on my cover, and I want to get pictures of actual players during the games, and I can use the portrait mode, or borrow one of my teachers cameras to do so. I like my table of contents, but my group and I are going to put a "Senior Spotlight" on each of the table of contents. Overall, the areas of my magazine that needs the most work is my pictures, and I think my magazine will come together nicely when I redo the pictures.

Use of Conventions & Social Groups

The genre of our magazine is sports, and it doesn't necessarily challenge the usual conventions. We focused on high school sports, and specifically Sarasota High. But our target can be all high schools, because many high schools face the same types of challenges as far as injuries, working hard for a winning record, or trying to get scholarships. There is a common theme in high schools as to what the norm is for sports, and having been in different high schools, I know how similar the goals and how most of the athletes interact with each other. The social groups that we are targeting are high school athletes, because the issues we will discuss in our magazine will be related to that, such as ACL injuries, which are very common in today's day and age because athletes are pushing themselves even more, and the overuse from running causes that. So overall, the wide range of athletes we can target to would help our magazine be successful.

Questions For Jack Duffy

What was it like making varsity your first year playing? What is it like playing for the sailors? You play for a team that has struggled in the past, how do you guys work through the adversity? What is the best thing about playing in the new gym? What are your plans for a winning season?

Planning Photo Shoots

I was lucky enough to plan out the photos at the perfect time. I had a game so I went into the basketball gym early while it was empty, but everything was set up, and I took pictures all around the gym. I took ones from different angles and I was very pleased with the final pictures that I produced. The next step was designing what pictures I wanted to incorporate into my magazine. I knew I wanted a wide shot of the gym for my cover photo, and I wanted to be able to have smaller sized pictures for the table of contents and my article itself.
