How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?

Our magazine uses the conventions rather than challenges it. For starters, we have the typical sports article. We have a normal sports font, using Onky. It was a font that we all easily agreed on because it was some what of a mix between the Sports Illustrated and ESPN. This was important because it related to our topic, sports. In addition, we also added a watermark in the top corners of our articles because we wanted to make our magazine look more professional. We decided to somewhat mirror the popular sports articles such as Sports Illustrated, especially in our table of contents. We had pictures from three different articles we were going to feature in our article, and under those pictures, we had a small description of what the article was/what it was going to be about. We did this so that it looked aesthetically pleasing, as well as get people to want to read those articles. Based on my flat plan, they would have a lot of ads around those articles so that we could receive more money from those companies to put the ads in. Since they are feature articles, more people will read them, meaning more people will be more likely to buy that product because they see the ads and they want whatever it is. This is common in a lot of magazines, which is why we don't challenge the conventions of typical magazines. Also, for our cover page, we had the three feature articles on the page because it would get people to be interested in the topics that were going to be in the magazine. It was important to us that we all had similar covers to set a specific theme for all of our magazines, with the standard font Onky and the same size in the same place. It represents social groups in the sense that it shows high school sports, and the issues that can these teens can go through. Whether it is injuries, or the stress of schoolwork, we want to be able to relate to all student athletes in a way that helps them understand that they are not alone, and have a place to discuss and read important sports topics and issues.
